Policy Analysis

Policy Analysis

SHEDC has conducted state level economic development public policy analyses as well as state-wide and regional impact analyses. The results of our studies of various economic sectors impacts and the public policy changes needed to retain and grow economic sectors have been very effective. If the state and regional entities have good, up-to-date economic development policies, then they can work in partnership with local economic development groups to better leverage resources and increase their chances of success for improving their economies.

Examples of economic development public policy studies that SHEDC has completed include state wide business /industry sectors and impact analyses for major highway transportation corridors.

  • The business/industry examples include the North Carolina Equine study that identified the economic impact of the industry and addressed economic development policies to support expansion of the industry.

  • A similar study was completed for the North Carolina Motorsports Industry which quantified the impact of the industry on the state’s economy and formed state-level policy recommendations to retain and grow the industry.

  • Our highway transportation corridor analysis studies included the entire Interstate 95 NC corridor with findings as to economic development impacts for various ways to expand, improve and maintain the corridor.

  • In addition, SHEDC prepared the U. S. Highway 70 corridor study in eastern NC that evaluated the economic development impacts of completing the four lane bypass.
